Gearing Up For Spring Training 2010
Dec 3, 2009 Baseball
Well it’s not even winter and the hot stove is still heating up, but that doesn’t mean warm thoughts can’t be on your mind. The 2010 Spring Training Schedules are up and that means I have an Arizona Trip all planned out.
You need to act quick on hotels and airplane fares. I already have my hotel booked and ready to go. It’s important to find one that offers a breakfast in the morning before the game starts so you eat and don’t spend too much money at the game. My hotel has this and a buffet style dinner with booze included if you should want a little cocktail. I’ve stayed here last year and it is very good to what your probably thinking. I have been trying to go on the cheap as much as possible these past few years do to the expense of traveling and the economy. The hotel I stay is a nice suite style one with a pool and internet, along with the breakfast and dinner that runs about $130.00 per night. It is a national chain, and for Scottsdale, that is pretty good. I go for about 10 days and really enjoy the games and sun after a long winter in Chicago.
If you haven’t been to Spring Training, I recommend you go. I have been doing it since 1998 and just love it. The new White Sox facility in Glendale is just the best. 13 practice fields, and a beautiful stadium. You can get there early and watch early workouts, and you feel like you are on coaching staff, because there’s not many people there.
But, to do it right, get your butt off the couch and get your plans done early so your trip goes smooth. I recommend Southwest Airlines out of Chicago Midway to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. They are usually the best priced and on time.
Check out hotels in Scottsdale for the high end places or go closer to the city of Phoenix for less than great places at a lower cost. You can buy game tickets most of the time on the day of unless its a Cubs-Sox game or a Diamondback-Cubs game. Most Cubs games are sold out, but you can find scalpers around Mesa.
The fun in the sun is less than 100 days away. Get started now.
