2010: The White Sox Save The Summer

The Sox saved the summer. Just as we came off of a Blackhawk high with a Stanley Cup Celebration here in Chicago, the Sox were done in our minds and baseball was pretty much over. Now as the White have moved within a game and a half of the Minnesota Twins over the last two weeks, were back to watching the boys who saved summer.

They had won 11 games in a row, for the first time since 1961 until yesterday’s game against the Cubs, which we put up a good fight at the end. Now the summer is saved for south side faithfuls as the Sox move on to Kansas City tonight, as Minnesota and Detroit beat each other up for a few days.

Some say that its because we played the weak National League the last two weeks. I’ll give you Pittsburgh and Washington, but the Braves and Cubs are always tough. Atlanta was the best team in the National League and the Cubs have one of the the highest payrolls in the game. When these schedules are made, nobody knows what that particular team will be doing at that point in the season. Let’s face it, the Sox beat the young Washington star pitcher too.

So I say, hang on to your horses, there is a long season ahead still. We are not even at the half-way point yet or all-star game. But at least the summer on the south side of Chicago is saved…. for now. Go Sox!
