NLDS Game 5’s & ALCS Game #1

These playoffs have been as exciting and close as can be. For example, look at those NLDS games yesterday.

The Brewers did a job on Arizona with the help of Mr. Tony Plush in extra innings. Just when the Brewers fans thought their brew was cooked the yeast rose at the perfect moment with an extra inning walk off hit and RBI by Nyjer Morgan. The game was in hand for Arizona until this heroic hit drove the Brew Crew to their first playoff series win since 1982. Its been a long time, but now they can take revenge against the Cardinals who they played against in 1982 for the World Series. The first game of the NLCS is in Milwaukee tomorrow.

Game #5 in Philadelphia last night was even more dynamic with the Phillies ace Roy Halladay on the mound against the Cardinals Chris Carpenter. St. Louis was going to have to score early against Halladay if they were going to have a chance. They did, and it was only one run, but that’s all it took. Chris Carpenter pitched a 3 hit shutout against the mighty Phillies who were baffled by pitch after pitch that he threw. Philadelphia fans watched in horror as yet another big east coast demon went falling by the wayside to make it an all midwest playoffs, if you count the Rangers as midwest. All the money and pitching in the world didn’t get them any closer to a World Series. Maybe some of these high payroll teams will start re-thinking their strategy for next year. Now there are 4 teams left and October is going quick.

The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers play tonight in Arlington Texas in game #1 of 7 in the American League Championship series. The Tigers bring back Justin Verlander against C.J. Wilson in the all important game #1. Both teams have bats, but Detroit’s pitching is better. I like the Tigers to win the series in 6 games and go on and face St. Louis for a rematch of the 2006 World Series where the wild-card St. Louis team beat Detroit. As long as the Tiger pitching fairs well, there is no stopping them.

See you on the flip-side.
