The Tigers ace Justin Verlander gave up a homer to Coco Crisp to start off the game, and shut the rest of the Athletics down for the rest of the game. Oakland’s pitcher Jarred Parker did a great job of his own, but his teammates just didn’t have the know how to get anymore runs off the Tigers pitching. Look for Oakland to rebound in game #2, because if they don’t this series is over.
The night game gave us the Reds at San Francisco. The Reds had a scare early when starting pitcher Johnny Cueto left the game with back spasms in the first, but the rest of the staff picked him up as Cincinnati ran away with game with the Giants, besides Buster Posey making it somewhat competitive with a homer early, and a big hit late in the contest, but it was too late by then. A wasted performance from Matt Cain doesn’t help San Francisco, especially if they can’t pull it off today. They should tie the series up before going to Ohio with Bumgarner on the mound tonight versus Bronson Arroyo for the Reds.
Game #1 of the NLDS between the Cardinals and Washington kicks off this afternoon with Adam Wainwright taking the hill in the city of blues against former Oakland A’s pitcher Gio Gonzalez who has been pretty good this year. I can’t stand the Nationals and I am not the biggest Cardinal fan, so its hard for me to even root for either team. However, St. Louis has been somehow squeaking into good luck for the past seven seasons. I have to think even without Pujols, the Cards give their team something to be happy about and the Nasty Nats fans something to worry about.
Now the series we all have been waiting for, The Orioles host the New York Yankees at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The Orioles have been waiting for this for 3 decades, and so has Baltimore’s big man and veteran Jim Thome. Big Jim has waited his whole career for a ring. The ring would so fitting if the Orioles could pull off the impossible. Today they will have their wings full with Sabathia pitching for New York. I am not a Buck Showalter fan at all, but as everybody else, I am so tired of the Yankees, go Orioles but look for New York to face Detroit in the ALCS next week.
