The NLCS last night in San Francisco was full of surprises. Injured closer Brian Wilson had his fingernails painted black and orange in hopes to take away from all the attention his beard is getting, in fact between both the Giants and Cardinals there are 35 players with some form of a beard. The fans were going crazy, dressed up like pandas, and smoking bubble pipes, it was almost like a Grateful Dead show was happening and not a baseball game. Oh wait… Bob Weir and Phil Lesh from the “Dead” sang the National Anthem with Giant third base coach Tim Flannery joining in on the jam. It was like the summer of love all over again in San Francisco, though there was no love lost between Cardinal left fielder Matt Holiday and Giant second baseman Scutaro. Holiday went in hard breaking up a double play at second base hitting Scutaro hard in the leg. There isn’t anything wrong with hard nose baseball, but this wasn’t even a slide, it was a full take out with a one step into the fielder. Scutaro stayed in the game for a bit, but was lifted and went for x-rays. Needless to say this pumped up not only the fans but the Giants.
Ryan Vogelsong pitched a great game #2 compared to his counterpart Chris Carpenter, though the St. Louis pitcher did get a hit and the only RBI for his team. Vogelsong pitched a 4 hit 4 strikeout game helping his team to an early celebration and onto the plane to St. Louis with the series tied at one game apiece.
Now for tonight’s game #3 of the ALCS in Motown. Justin Verlander (who is the best pitcher in the game) takes the mound once again for his Tigers who lead this series two games to zero. Let’s face it folks if the Yankees can’t win tonight this series is over. If you ask me this series was over before it started. The Yankees lost whatever hope they had after game #1 in New York. They look like a team that has run out of gas and have aged ten years from last Friday to Saturday night’s game. Its going to take Verlander to implode tonight for the Yankees to get any mojo back, and folks I wouldn’t count on it.
