As a White Sox fan, I feel bad enough that my team fell short of making the post season this year, but what if I was a Cleveland Indian fan? Having to watch Cliff Lee go against C.C. Sabathia on the mound for game one of the World Series tomorrow in New York City, has got to feel like an arrow in the back . Cleveland also has a new manager in Manny Acta, who said yesterday that the “Torre’s and LaRussa’s don’t come to teams like this so that’s why they hire a guy like me.” What he means of course is when you have a crappy team, no attendance, and sell off your stars, you hire the rejected manager of the Washington Nationals.
This leads us to the discussion of a salary cap in baseball, in which this discussion stops, because it will never happen as long as the strongest union in the country is still running the show.
Talking about the show, tomorrow night’s on FOX should be a yankee doodle dandy of one. The two ex-Indians face off against one another, and only one will be getting a ring this year. Let’s hope that Cliff Lee and the Phillies do it like Rocky Balboa did, with blood and guts, not shaving cream pies and overpriced seating. The Yankees Nick Swisher has got to be feeling the razor burn after falling flat this off season, with nothing but a handful of paper plates to hold in his hand. The Phillies have got to beat the “beast in the east”, just to shut that guy up for once. He’s all glitter and no gold, a guy who is all talk and no walk, he wouldn’t take ball four if you promised him stock in Chinet and Barbersol.
Day Off number #2 in a row until tomorrow. Oh yeah fans, did you here the good news, Tony LaRussa is bringing in the red headed monster Mark McGwire as the Cardinals hitting coach next year. Rumor has it that Manny Acta’s new hitting coach may be Sammy Sosa. Ohhhh…. for long one.
